Les Fleurs du ChâteauFall 2006 - Volume 10 Number 3
![]() "Les Fleurs du Château" by Melinda Lacerna Kimbrell, MD,
is a 36 x 48 cm oil on canvas in the impasto style with thick,
Van Gogh-like paint strokes using very thick paint. This painting
was inspired by sunflowers displayed in a vase in one of
the bedrooms of a château in the Loire Valley of France
in July 2005. Dr Kimbrell was further inspired by the
sunflower-covered French fields.
Dr Kimbrell is a plastic surgeon at the Woodland Hills
clinic in Southern California. She has had no formal art
training aside from a few college art classes. "Les Fleurs
du Château" is her second oil painting; she considers
her style to be "impressionistic."
